Uh Oh, A Tough App Store Mistake

I learned this lesson the hard a way few weeks ago…

If you submit an update to iTunes Connect, do NOT change the available date of the update to a future time. It will remove the current version from the App Store.

I did this because I wanted to make sure my update didn’t get buried in the new releases list. Instead, my app Compounds, was delisted AND removed from the “New and Notable” section for the larger part of a day before I noticed.

After I got it re-listed, I immediately checked the New and Notable section to find that Compounds was not back in its place. I understandably panicked, but was more than relieved when it was back the next day. I estimate about a 70% loss in sales fo the day, however.

To make sure you get the best placement for your update:
The day your update passes review, simply log into ITC and change it’s available date to today. This will ensure that you’re app will be near the top of the new releases list.

Lesson learned.

I did the same thing to my app touch atlas! I realized the next day when I noticed my sales dropped more than 50%. oh well great lesson learnt

@Drew yes, it was a little disconcerting seeing the drop-off in sales. The funny thing was, I had the story I linked to above open in my browser as I was doing this to myself. If I just would have read it, all would have been well
